Exclamation Cheap Drop HELP!

Ok guys. This has probably been talked about or shown before, but I wanna know the cheapest way to drop my truck down. I'm not talking slamming, or laying on the ground. I just wanna get the rear down for sure, and maybe the front. Maybe 2-3 inches in rear. Probably only 1-2 in front. After putting my vintage AR turbines on and Cooper Cobra Radial G/T's in 255-60-15 it really showed how bad the rear stuck up in the air.
Someone told me something about blocks in the rear and cutting thier front coil. Please enlighten me on what to get, what to do, and how to do these things. Pics would be most appreciated!
Here's some pics so you can see how my truck sits. Oh, and the PO installed rear coil over shocks, which just changing those out I would think might help some.

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

Cut one coil off the front, will give you roughly 2" and some used A-body springs out back, ie Chevelle etc. I have set of Chevelle springs that came with my truck when I bought it and they were good for about a 3" drop. Since I have installed 5" truck springs with 1" blocks out back to get it lower.

And here is with the new wheels and tires and 5" rear springs and 1" inch blocks. Front tires are 245/60r15 and the rear are 255/70r15. In the first picture all tires were 235/75r15

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

Thanks. But how much would it cost for a set of chevelle springs? Would it make the ride too bouncy or soft? Cutting the front springs sounds like the way to go there, but how do you get them out and it? Never done that before, not that I don't have basic mechanical skills though. What about rear blocks? How does that work? Sorry for all the questions, just wanna do this cheap and right. Did you need shorter shocks anywhere?

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

The Chevelle springs will make the ride nice and soft but you cant haul much. I run the stock shocks up front and ran stock out back with the chevelle springs. You can have mine if you want. Just pay shipping.

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

On the main forums section of this site, there's a sub-section titled 'FAQ'....
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=92

Look through the FAQ/truck tech for suspension info.

If you can't find what you want there, here's more info that was organized by one of the long-time members (also found within that FAQ section)....
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=262547

Look through the suspension stuff & there's several budget 'how to's' for lowering. There's one for making your own lowering blocks, modifying the shock brackets for better travel, etc....

Well, this definately isn't gonna be a hauler (like the PO used it for). It's gonna be a cruiser/show truck in the end. How much would shipping be on those to 40353?

Well with using my bathroom scale as a way to measure the weight, I know it's not the most accurate way to do it, best I can tell shipping will run around $20. If you are interested I will box it up tonight and get you an exact price. Let me know.

So they won't require any modification? Just swap 'em out? Right? If so interested. Feel free to PM me with exact quote, paypal, etc. Is that USPS Parcel Post?

Yes they will swap right in, no modifications at all. Took me about 45 minutes to an hour to change. I will box up tonight and pm you a total, and yes that was parcel post. If you want priority let me know.

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

If your not happy with chevelle springs/jeep springs whatever (i ran jeep springs, they worked but there WAYY to soft for a truck) you could go with a 2" drop block and if you wanted the rake back cut a coil

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

With 15" wheels you can use up to a 1.5" drop block.
Member way2lo2 sells them in the suspension marketplace.

Drop truck springs are really the answer.
But these require a drop shock also.
Look at other members trucks and try to duplicate the drop you like.

Just remember that a 2 inch drop rear spring is compared to a stock height NEW spring.
Not a sagging 40+ year old spring.
Suspension and brakes should be a priority.
Do it right the first time.

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

Thanks guys. Gonna try the chevelle springs today since I got them. The PO has new coil over shocks and new heavy duty rear springs (maybe for a C20?). So the current set up is extremely stiff! I'm also gonna go buy some new stock ride shocks. Hoping this will soften up the ride and give me some drop so Copper's butt isn't sticking up in the air so much!

Re: Cheap Drop HELP!

Here's pics of Copper's stance now. I love the way the rear looks now, but going to have to drop the front about 2 inches. The rear is at 29" the front is at 31". Thinking of putting the coilover shocks back in to see if it'll raise it up in the rear some. Name: Photo0277.jpg
