Re: base clear paint
current thoughts in another thread
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=489629 waterborne is apparently used more in automotive applications that I thought. I've had no trouble getting the "regular" stuff.

I went out bought a gun strickly for waterbourne base, and have sprayed 4 vehicles so far with no issues and with just basic tech info. I have been using Sikkens Autowave WB, they have been using this system in Europe for over 15 years now. |

Re: base clear paint
it only lasts about 8 to 10years in the sun though it would likely last longer on a vehicle that is covered

Re: base clear paint
It's been around for years. My 93 Corvette is water based. But, from what I have read, only the base coat is water based, clear coat is still oil based.
Not true. My 93 is never inside and never covered, has original paint, (I know because I bought it new) and still shines like the day it was new.

Re: base clear paint
Yes clear coat is water based as well but here in Canada they have only stopped the use of solvent base paint.
I still use regular solvent clear coat after my waterbourne base. I think they have just lowered the VOC in the clear coat. Will ask my paint rep next time i see him. |
