Heater cable cover? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have seen this mentioned a couple times and apparently mine is missing. I can feel a groove in the bottom of the dash though. Apparently this is some metal cover that hides the cables. Does anybody have pics of one installed? Also what is this called so I can put up a WTB ad without sounding like a dolt?

I have never seen one and none of the 11 trucks that we own nor the six trucks that we parted out had one. If there is such a part I would like to see a picture of it.

i'd think if there is a groove in your dash from the cables it is because they are installed improperly

never seen or heard the piece you talk about

Here's a picture from the assembly manual, It's item 6. I've been looking for this cover for a while. Seems this is one of those things that got taken off for some reason and never replaced.

They did not go on our trucks you can find them on 40-60 series trucks. Best I can tell purpose was to keep feet out of the cables in the big trucks due to the difference in floor pan shape etc.

Interesting, always thought they did as there are holes in the vent for the screws.

The heat duct assembly is the same hence the holes. The covers are a neat piece and clean up the cable area. I have one stuck away that I pulled from a 40 series grain truck

I have one of those for my '67 project. Yes,they are from medium duties. I know of someone who made a bunch up a few years ago. Not sure if he has any left or not.

my assembly manual said that piece was discontinued in the 10 - 30 series.

Yeah,I should have said they were also installed in "some 10-30s" at first. I have seen maybe three in many years of looking.

I bought one from someone on the board awhile back and for the life of me I cant remember who. He reproduced some and it didn't seem like there was much interest in them at the time. He may have some left if I could only remember who it is.

I measured my repro cover with a tape measure. All I have at the moment. It's 9 1/8" wide and looks to be 5 3/4" tall. The metal thickness looks 1/16" and the screw holes are 1/4".
