Original Rear Bumpers

Is it possible to fix up my original rear bumper. On the right side it has rusted and bubbled up on the diamond plate. How odd will it look if I cut the section out and welded a new piece in place. I was planning to do that sand blast it and paint it grey. Does anyone know what color grey is close to original ? I have a picture of a bumper that is similar to mine, but I have not taken a picture of the problem area just yet .

Re: Original Rear Bumpers

impossible to tell what color it was// depends on who built it and what color they were spraying that day

not a factory GM piece they were mostly dealer installed from contracted local vendors

Didn't know it was a dealer item thanks. My thoughts were to same color grey as the original steel wheels.

Re: Original Rear Bumpers

I have that same bumper on my '71 4x4. When I had the inside of the bed sprayed with LineEx I had the top tread plate portion of the bumper sprayed the same. Really like it. Painted the remaining portion of the bumper in a Argent Silver or light Pewter color.
