rear axle question, hope you can help.
ok, not sure if i should post here or the suspension section but here goes.
the camaro subframe is in, (glad that is finally checked off the list!) but now it's on to the rear. i was told the rear is out of the same year of camaro or possible that it could be el camino. 1st. question is how do i find out which, and is one better than the other? 2nd. question is what "OTHER" axle is going to be close in size but same bolt pattern, and strong? i'm running a 454 and 700r4. and a four link and bags. i'm not dragging this but i don't want to rip it apart the first time some kid pulls up and thinks he's got it easy on me! thanks for any and all ideas, or whatever you guys have had or delt with. (good or bad)

If it's the width you want, use it. All of those 10 bolts were used in V-8 applications. With your auto trans, you'll have no problems unless you start buying sticky tires.....and even then without a clutch or trans brake, you won't hurt that rear, especially on the street.

Re: rear axle question, hope you can help.
El camino has coil springs and camaro has leaf springs. there are to or three 10 bolts the camaro likely has the smaller one. The big one has a 8.5" ring gear is very close to as strong as a 12 bolt

Re: rear axle question, hope you can help.
thanks guys, i'll try to do a little more "web searching". there are a set of horrible redneckafied spring perches out of 2" C channel that the P.O. tried to weld on the tubes. so unfortunately i have nothing from the original mounts left over. so it sounds like it should be fine for me. i can always upgrade axle shafts and such as time and $$$ comes up.
