Package deal: BB, th400, 12 bolt posi...or ???
Im not a knowledgable drivetrain guy. Who have you guys dealt with that have got u into a big block monster without breaking the bank? (Lets say...under 12 grand)? Am I dreamin? Or, tell me what Im missing?
Oh, and I just realized Im gonna get moved to drivetrain...Moderators, please let me hang out on general discussion for a day before u move me? So much more input on general, thanks

If I had 12k to spend I would go with a LS. You get best of both worlds. Lighter weight,better mileage,more efficient. Its the way to go.

But I also have to upgrade trans and rear. I have a th350 and a non posi currently.

cammed LQ9/4l80E would set you back around $4K maybe a bit more, rear end complete rebuild, say 2K. anothe r2K for misc stuff you find you need/want when putting together.
This would get you around 500HP or so at the FW. plus would probably pull 18-20MPG on the highway

For $12k you build one hell of a big block. I had an alum headed 468 bout 550 horse for $6500. IIRC that included everything, buying the motor, parts, labor, etc.

I pieced it together. Bought the burb for the motor, heads from Scoggin Dickey, most other parts from Summit Racing. Had the motor put together by a shop in MD.
