72 front driveshaft interchange options.
I need a front driveshaft for my 72 GMC truck, do any other year trucks use the same or similar shaft?

Re: 72 front driveshaft interchange options.
Best bet would be same vintage, same transmission and t-case. Different transmissions and different transfers can make for different shafts. '73 and up trucks have more wheelbase and different location for the motor relatively speaking. I would consider having one made. A brand new CV style shaft runs about $300 balanced.
I just had to have one made for my '86 K30. Truck was originally an SM465/205 with a slip yoke on a one piece rear shaft. The replacement SM465/205 that came from an 80's Suburban required a two piece shaft with carrier bearing which was no surprise, but the front driveshaft was now 5" too long. New shaft was $310 delivered from Wenco. This is the second shaft I have bought from them. First was a custom one for a Nissan Borg Warner T5 in my 240Z with a 1310 joint on the rear companion flange. Nice people to work with.

Re: 72 front driveshaft interchange options.
I have a 1978 Bronco with a c-6 and 205 tcase and the front drive line fits into a 72 chevy with a TH400 and an np205 tcase. It also fits a 67 and 69 chevy with a sm420 tranny and rockwell t221 tcase. Thos broncos are kinda hard to find around here, but the f 150s in 78 and 79 should be the same. Good luck.

$50 bucks plus the ride from Alaska, you can have my old one. Its completely rebuilt. Make sure that your transfer case has a yoke and not a flange.
