86 C-10 Red Rod Project

Picked up this little jewel this past week. Not much cancer, but does have some creased dents that is gonna require some panel replacement. First off, I see the factory 4.3 4bbl eng has to go. Well Guys & Gals, I guess you have to start somewhere... So here we go....

Doesn't look too bad from the pictures. What are your plans for it?

Re: 86 C-10 Red Rod Project

Well, the truck was originally a 3spd truck and has been converted to a TH350. I wanted to put a 4spd in it, but the tranny is in such good condition, I think I'll keep it in there. I have a fresh 30 over 350 on a stand that I'm gonna put in it, get the body work done, then go back solid red...( I kinda like it ). Some new wheels and tires, and a new interior. Not gonna lower her though...I am kinda partial to it the way it is. By the time I am done, I will owe LMC my soul probably...

The engine, I had in another ride I was doing,... a 32 Graffiti coupe. However, after the economy took a dump, I had to go to a project more affordable. So I pulled this engine out, and it is the one going into the C10.

Please consider all vendors before getting too tied up with LMC. They aren't very competitive on pricing and their tech support is lacking.

Classic Parts up in Missouri is top notch. Great prices and honest to god GM parts people for tech support. They've even helped me find something when I call them with part number for obsolete GM parts. And, no I don't work for them, they have just treated me very well many times over the years and I'm loyal to them.

Re: 86 C-10 Red Rod Project

OK, finally got he v-6 out and the v-8 in and purring. The th350 was garbage when I found most of it in the pan. SO,... It is officially a 4spd now. I have to make some sort of adapter plate to mount the slave cylinder so it will work with the manual linkage bellhousing I used. I didnt bother painting the inner fenderwells or anything, because it is getting all new front end clip metal.

Yea, I think I'm gonna switch to Classic Parts. How is their shipping time? I'm starting to get Not so Fond of LMC. The last few dealings with them has not went smooth.

Re: 86 C-10 Red Rod Project

When I was living in Oklahoma, it was 2-3 day from ordering to arrival.
Once I ordered online Sunday night and had parts Tuesday @ noon.
Being in Va., YMMV.

Re: 86 C-10 Red Rod Project

Today I got the bracket finished that I custom made to mount the slave cylinder for the clutch.... Oh yea, it was a chore seeing I am running a Monza bellhousing and a Saginaw 4 spd out of a Vega. Got the bracket all finished and bolted on. I believe it will work well, as the curved fork seems to allow plenty of throw for clutch disengagement. I bolted on the clutch mas cyl, and only have to get a couple more things before I can drive it. I yet to have the clutch pressure hose, and reservoir. Seems around here those 2 parts are scarce. I'll probably have to order them from somewhere. WooHoo!!
