Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

Depending on your gear ratio you will need either a 3 series(2.73-3.42) or 4 series (3.42-4.56) Eaton posi unit and someone who knows what they are doing to install it and set your backlash. (Cost all said and done ~$600.00) Your other option is to go with a Richmond gear powertrax unit which you can install yourself (Cost all said and done ~$360)

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

I am running a 3.73. I like the option of $360 and do it myself better.

Thumbs up Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

Excuse the intrusion, can I have more info on the $360 dollar version? I'm looking to do a posi on my 454 C10 stepside and that's a nice low figure! At that price, I'll do one on my C20 as well!

So it's a bolt in unit? Pros? Cons?

Where is the best place to buy?

Thanks,

Bob

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

I ran a powertrax locker in my 96 caprice. Quite a unit, only problem is it locks the wheels solid, so the inside tire will chatter in turns. It was easy and cheap as long as you don't mind wearing tires out! Lol

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

I run a powertrax in my daily driver 94 s10 with the 10 bolt and before putting it in i used to burn the right rear up on the rear and for no reason... now that I have it in and my tires are lasting a lot longer... as long as you stay out of the gas in the corners it wont lock the rear together. unless even at idle you are pushing a lot of torque to the rear which i am. but if your on a budget and dont mind a little tire squeal in the corners go for it. I really like the unit and traction is much improved unless the roads are a little slick and your heavy on the gas in the corners trying to slide it out.

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

The lunch box lockers give lockers a bad name. They don't operate as they are suposed to. The best is detriot locker. Other than a bit more backlash, and the odd clunk from the gears they operate awsome. I have one in my long box c20 twd, and one in my Blazer 4X4. They never stay locked in a corner unless your on the power pretty hard. The best thing I like is one tire will never spin faster the the slowest. My expeiriance with the power trax lockers have been bad. Terrible street manners, they don't always unlock in a corner, and in the 7 fullsize trucks I have put them in I have had to change them for good posi's or Detriot lockers. In short, they are cheap,,,,,,,,,,,not inexpensive.

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

Yeah, I'm getting mixed reviews on these. Some love them and some hate them. I'm going to continue to research before I commit yet.

Thanks and keep the comments coming on this.

Re: Posi Rear End Conversion????

Most the people I hear about eating up those lockers are off road guys. The fact that their using the factory carrier may add to the problem.
I'd still prefer the Eaton unit or an Auburn Gear unit. Unless I'm going in a straight line, I would like a little bit of slip.
