I hate to do but...
I had to put my truck up for sale. Out of work and cant find work. Ex wife has refused to pay child support for the last 6 months. So I am broke and cant afford my truck any more. This is not a thread to sell my truck. Its been a nice run and hopefully when I can find a teaching job I can find another truck but right now its the truck or food and a roof over the head for my son and I. This is a great site and I have learned so much here.

Re: I hate to do but...
I said a prayer for you and I think you should sell the Harley first. Can't take your son in the rain on the back of a bike. Just my .02 and I pray all works out for you.

Re: I hate to do but...
Well the Harley is my usual mode of transportation because I get 54 miles to the gallon. I have only been in the rain 3 times over the last 6 months. Hopefully I can find a teaching job soon. They are hard to come by. That and the transmission is going out in the truck so I havent been able to trusk driving it lately.

Kev, have you tried Alvarado or Burleson? Burleson has a sub job open. Just a thought and wanting to help out.

Re: I hate to do but...
Been there, & felt that pain of seeing mine go away with the new owner. Family needs ALWAYS come first.
Sorry for your current situation, but things will get better. Just hang in there & keep thinking: "it's just a truck, and there's a lot more of them out there. When the time's right, another will come along for you." |

I am going after her but it takes time and lets face a man going after a woman for support gets the run around when dealing with women in the govt. Its slow going but I am going after her. There is an arrest warrant out but I dont have a clue where she is at now. She moved form Georgia to Oklahoma a few months ago and I havent been able to track her down. She was fired from her job back in May and hasnt worked since. As far as a teaching job I am Kinder through 6th grade qualified. I graduate in December. I now have a sub job lined up starting in 2 weeks but its only if I get called. Its not a daily thing. But at least it gets my foot in the door.

Re: I hate to do but...
Congrats Kev, it is something, right?
I would also think about something outside the teaching realm. most management jobs want a degree. Ill keep thinking about you and hope you get something permanent and long lasting.

Re: I hate to do but...
Thanks, One of the reasons I went into teaching is so I would have time to spend with my son. Being a single parent I cant be off at work all the time. Having the same days off as my son works out great.

Re: I hate to do but...
Well I havent got any hits on the truck yet but its still out there. I finish student teaching this thursday so I can find a day job after thursday. I have my applications out at most of the Schools around my area. Now I am starting to branch out all the way from Dallas to Corpus Christi. It takes me about 20 to 25 minutes to research and email each resume, and about an hour to an hour and a half to fill out each application. Answering the same questions over and over and you cant cut and paste into these online applications, so I have to type each one.
Somethings gotta give soon.

Re: I hate to do but...
Hang in there brother. Luck always seems to come to those who work hard. Be sure to put the word out to all your contacts and put social networks to work for you. Check web sites like monster.com
If I can help, pm me and I'll help fill out sites too. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: I hate to do but...
feel you man, my wifes been out of work for some time, shes a high school biology teacher, shes actually going back to school to get her k-6 endorsment, even then there is no guarentee for a job. I have spent the last 10 years getting the boat/truck/and jeep we have always wanted, now one by one they are all going to be gone unless something happens. All we can do is hope, it can only get better from here, good luck to you and your son

Re: I hate to do but...
When I chose to retire from my last career I looked long and hard at my future and chose teaching. Most of my family are teachers too. Jobs were plentiful and I was told I could get a job at any district because I was a male. Now that I am almost finished with school the market is dried up. Ill spend most of the day tomorrow sending out resumes at least until my sons football playoff game tomorrow night. He and his football keep me pretty busy 4 nights a week and saturdays. At least there are a couple good looking 67-72 chevys to look at in the parking lot at practice. Its hard being a single full time parent.
I make pens and do other woodworking so at least Im keeping food on the table with that. Here is a little of my work. Mostly sell to teachers right now.

Re: I hate to do but...
Last year my wife and I decided to move from WA back to KS to be closer to our families. We looked for jobs for awhile just looking on-line, monster, bla bla bla.
Finally we started using our "network" of people we know. My wife got a job where I used to work when I my former co-worker put a bug in the ear of the hiring supervisor. Then I got 2 job offers, one through my uncle's brother in law and one through a buddy from college/navy that I stayed in contact. Seems like knowing someone "on the inside" is the way to get a job with the current market. |
