I thought they cost about $1200 for the complete kit. Does Summit sell just the business end of it?

This isnt a complete kit, it doest have the compressor, condensor, or evap. it is just the dash control with the cable connection to the unit under the dash nothing else. this also isnt the latest gen unit. Correct me if i am wrong but I believe the gen IV's are electric / servo driven.

I'm too dumb to know what "electric / servo driven" is.

But, I AM installing a new Vintage Air set up right now. Compressor, drier, evap, all hoses, all dash stuff (less the controller),
vents, new (smaller) glove box liner, relays to use with the stock air controller, etc., etc.

The whole package was under $1,200 delivered to my door in Calif. from San Antonio.

On mine, the compressor is driven off of the serp. system up front. The heater/a/c blower fan is electric and self-contained in the
housing under the dash it shares with the evap.

Ooooh, nice.

If they make 'em that way, I got stuck with new old stock. The cables have always worked fine for me.
They go from the stock GM control panel to mini-switches which I've found to be pretty fool-proof up until now.

On mine, the blower and straight-electrics are controlled by the stock switch thru relays to their respective
"homes"...fan and a/c binary switch, etc.

This pic has nothing to do with the subject. Except that the GM controller now has white face, too.
