Any one upgraded to 3/4 ton calipers?

I am looking to upgrade to the JD7/JB7 brake calipers. They have the larger piston and brake pads. The calipers bolt up fine, but the hoses will not. I am redoing my 40 year old brake system and this seems to be a budget upgrade. Has anyone done this before? Could you tell a difference? Am I going to run into any other problems?

Well I went ahead & ordered the brake hose. I should know something in a few days. I am considering purchasing the 3/4 ton booster also.

I was under the impression the calipers and pads were the exact same between the 10 and the 20 series trucks.

Re: Any one upgraded to 3/4 ton calipers?

The larger calipers I want to use are from something like an 1980 k20 suburban. They have a the larger 3 5/8 piston diameter & use a slightly larger brake pad.

Here is a photo of the pads. Top ones are for the larger caliper, & the lower is the original pads. I got the brake hose today for the suburban, it will thread into the line and with a new bolt, the line will bolt to the caliper. The suburban brake hose is like 4" too long. It would be good if anyone out there has a pic of how a similar line is mounted?

Re: Any one upgraded to 3/4 ton calipers?

I did a 3/4 ton swap on my 86 K10, the calipers bolted up fine, pads were fine. I used AN braided line for my hoses though, so I never had an issue with them being to short. I haven't actually driven it more than around the block yet, but everything seems fine now.

The larger piston will give you a little more stopping power, but I think it's minimal. I didn't think the booster or master cylinder were different?

Re: Any one upgraded to 3/4 ton calipers?

The calipers clear with 15" wheels. I ordered some Stainless Braided lines to fit & they leak at the sealing washers. I have reinstalled the lines 3 times with new washers every time. I am so frustrated right now every thing is going to go back to stock parts. Oh well it was a nice thought.
