Dana 60 rear want to lighten it up
Has anyone done any type of swap on the dana 60 rear axle as far as brakes?
I built a 72 c20 with a 6.0 LS and was trying to go more for autocross type performance and this is the last thing on the list. Big heavy ugly drums. Would like a conversion to smaller drums or delete the drums and go disc. Pics if ya got 'em...

There are a couple of places that sell kits.
Here's one: http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.com/index7.html

Re: Dana 60 rear want to lighten it up
I have done it on a dana 60. go buy ur disk and weigh one and Ill tell ya how much a drum weighs.
Ur not going to lose much, not near what u think. I can tell ya that. Now if it was a 14b then yes those drums are huge compared to 60 drums. ill get some pics, cant get ya weights on the disk i used though I used el dorado calipers. unfortunatly the brakes work too good. the rear wheels lock up way to easy. I have changed the proportioning valve to a disc/disc valve, it didnt help. The truck is still streetable with the disc/disc or disk/drum valve but the tires lock up on medium/hard braking, which is not good in an emergency. I have a 76 4x4 short step with 35" tires and a 25gl blazer tank as far back on the frame as possible, even with tank full the tires lock no problem. in short, dont do it to save weight, not on a dana 60 |

Did you have this truck at the Des Moines Iowa Good Guys show this summer? If so it was one heck of a truck that had us in awe at the autocross track.
