79 gmc street coupe
I just inherated a 79 street coupe step side. From what i have seen on here they are kinda rare. The question i have is, is it worth it to try to bring it back to life??? I got the truck with the thought in mind that i was going to put a fleet side bed on it and start my project there. Its an in line 6 2wheel drive and the inline 6 motor is blown The cab and fenders are in pretty good shape as well as the frame but the bed is shot. As a collector of old iron i dont want to kill something if it a rare find. any thoughts???????

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Does it still have the original paint and decals and how complete is it? Can you post pictures? (including SPID if you have it)

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
It is all orginal paint except for one rear fender that was replaced. And it does have the build sheet in the glove box. I was thinking to trade it off for another short bed if someone wanted to build it. I will get some pics up when I get home.

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
The cab looks good. If you have a solid cab and frame and good front clip it is a nice clean canvas. The disassembly portion of the project shouldn't take too long. Do you have the parts that are missing?

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Looks solid, I`d be tempted to resto it, but swap in the eng/trans of you choice. It depends on what is missing for parts also.

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
I'd restore it original but with a V8, its a real cool option package.

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
This one appears to have original paint and stripes and a clean body....definitely worth saving ....there are not many of these trucks with the Street Coupe package left

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Agreed, save it. I'd do it as original as possible, there aren't many out there.

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
I have had them made by a computer graphics shop ....they do full wraps and murals on cars.....so the Street Coupe and Chevy Sport stripes were easy.

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Have the factory build sheet still in the glove box that and the title have it listed as a 79. I got the truck from my uncle who bought it new and he said the same thing. Not sure about the mirrors does it matter what part of the year it was put out?

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Anything is possible ....especially if it was a late build;the below eyeline 9 x 6.5 mirrors were advertised as new for 1980.
Appears to have manual steering/brakes Can you post the SPID ...I have only seen one other Street Coupe/Chevy Sport ordered as a base model with no other options. |

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Nothing like having the SPID ....
Definitely shows D45 mirrors on a 1979 ....the larger ones were D29 Do you know what happened to that truck ...i think it was on ebay a few years ago With a vin of 730097 it would have been the 630097th truck built at Flint so it would have been later in the year |

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
Interesting truck...
clock, springs, street coupe and 4 spd are the only options No power steering/brake/radio....plain white wheels and dog dish caps No mirrors are shown on SPID so they could have been dealer installed My 79 4x4 ...original paint and stripes .... has the D29 mirrors but it appears the D45s were available also |

Re: 79 gmc street coupe
If you look at the number of street coupes (RPO Z77) built in 79 ...about 1500...and then look at big block/bucket seat models in Charcoal /silver combo ....likely less then 50 built....and then think of how many are left 30 years later ...you have a rare truck ...especially if it is rust free and complete.
Is the SPID option sticker still in the glove box..... |
