Front air bags (d2600) fitting problems. Please Help.
So here is my deal I open to options and opinions. I have the bolt in top plate and lower cups (2.125" tall) in my 1967 C10 from thorbecke bros. (formerly suicide doors), and running D2600 bags by Air Lift. I am looking to have a final ride height of between 1-2" below stock ride height. The photos show the max (highest) height I am able to get these bags to raise up as the upper control arm hits the crossmember (bag height ~5") , which still puts them about 1" below the designed ride height of the bag ( this is with the bumpstops shaved). I still need to have more suspension travel than just 2.2". I am not able to cut the cup anymore as I only have 3/16" clearance between the bag and the lower control arm on the inside edge. I even tried unbolting the top plate and running a cup up top but that only gives me an additional .25" of travel.... still not enough. What is a guy to do here. I dont have the $ for tubular control arms. Would purchasing a different bag like slam specialties ss5 or ss6 do the trick to fit down in the cup? or is that not going to be enough bag to handle the weight.... I also dont want to kill the ride... I would like it to still be smoother than the coil springs.

Im running the same bags on mine but I cupped the lower arms to allow the bags to set down about 2". The ride is perfect.

Got any pics by chance... I thought about doing this but it is so close to the inside edge of the lip and I am concerned of the structural integrity of the lower arm. I very well may be just over thinking this. Also where did you get/what type of 8.5-9" pipe to make the cup?

I must have deleted my pics. There are a ton of pics on the forum. Just search for cupped control arms. I actually made the cups out of 1/8" x 2 flat stock that I formed into a circle. Then I plated the bottom with 1/4" plate. I've never had a problem with them and it is my daily driver ( it gets beat on everyday). I will try and take some pics tomorrow.

check out my build thread (link in my sig). the first page shows what is commonly done, a piece of pipe is recessed into the lower control arm to allow the truck to lay out lower and also allows the bag to be at a better angle and what not. also if you would like more lift you can cut out the center section of the upper control arms and plate them so they dont contact the crossmember for another 1" or so.

Thanks guys, Looks like I will be getting some 9" pipe and cutting, welding, reblasting, and painting the LCA's next weekend!
