fan install

So I went to the junkyard and got a radiator fan off a 93 lincoln contiential. It has 3 wires (black, brown with a yellow stripe, and brown with a orange stripe), I am wondering which wire goes to what? I am assuming the black wire should be connected to a ground. I think the other 2 wires are for low speed operation and high speed operation but I am not sure how or what to hook them up to. I have already installed a serpentine belt system off a 92 silverado on the truck now I want to get rid of the water pump fan and go with an electric one. your assitance is requested. Thanks.

I would go to the local parts house and pick up a thermostatic fan switch. Hook that up to the high speed windings on the fan, and set it for when your thermostat opens. If you have A/C, hook the low speed windings to a relay triggered by the A/C clutch circuit. This way, the higher capacity fan speed is what is used to keep your motor cool, giving you the largest leeway as far as load on the motor, ambient temperature etc. The low speed fan will draw air across the radiator and condenser whenever the A/C is on, giving you cold A/C even when you are stopped in traffic.

The inrush current on the high speed side will burn up a thermostatic switch.
You should have the thermostat switch running a high amperage relay. The guys running the two speed Taurus fans claim the low speed side pulls enough air that high speed isn't needed.

I just stuck a dual fan on my 83 and just wired both fans to a 30A relay and connected that to the IGN on/off. Never got hot. Warms up kinda slow. Definitely use a relay. I used a Mister Gasket high flow thermostat and it runs 160-180.

I have it under the dryer outlet trying to dry it faster. I will get the drimmel out and cut the factory shroud off once i think the homemade one is strong enough.
