'50 AD Interior Door patchs

Does anyone out there have an old donor door that I could get a section of metal to fix the dang holes a PO cut into the door panels for speakers? Below are a few pics of the areas to be repaired. To add insult to injury, they cut out sections of window runs as well. I can fix those but sure could use some pre-contoured patches.

I hate when people do that! It wouldn't be such a problem if you were going to use full length door panels. With the quality of the small speakers there would clearance for the window tracks.I want to do something like this. Upholstery is another thing I am learning

Hey I just cut up a drivers door yesterday for my truck and have most of the inside of the drivers door. If you want me to cut a section out and send it to you send a PM with your info and I will get back with you.

Re: '50 AD Interior Door patchs

coralhead,

I've got the exact same issue with my 55.2 but the PO cut TWO giant holes in each door - DOH!! Member RudeDude and I swapped some parts and he gave me a door with good interior metal to cut patch panels from. I'll be watching yours with interest to see your progress. I am a bit chicken to start mine cause I don't know how to weld. I have a Hobart but no experience. I'll be practicing on the scrap door.

I hate it when they do that. I'll have the front sections from a pair of 51 doors when I get the doors cut the doors so that I can stretch my doors. Actually I'll have the front of the 51 doors and the back few inches of the one piece window doors.

Here is what I am wanting to fix. Does anyone have any old window runs that are attached to the rear inside of the door that you want to get rid of? They are attached by two screws on the lower rear edge.

Re: '50 AD Interior Door patchs

coralhead,
I've not looked inside the scrap door that "RudeDude" (Rudy) gave me, and I wonder if the part would even be the same as an AD truck's but if it's there and I can get it out I'd be wiling to give it to you.

Drop me a PM with any information you know: length, your zip code for shipping purposes, etc. and I'll check on it tonight when I get home.

This door is for a Task Force truck so its iffy if it will fit but MAYBE there's a possibility of modifying it to make it fit. Best, Dan

Here are some pics of the speaker hole repair in my driverside door. I'm not the best welder but filler will smooth that out. Thanks to Dustin for helping me out with the patch material. The right door had the same problem and solution.

Re: '50 AD Interior Door patchs

Smart, I wouldn't have thought to cut the hole out larger and hence, more even.

I have been planning to cut metal out of the donor and hold it behind the as-is hole in the door and trace out the shape with a pencil, then cut and weld in.

Looks really good. Please post pic's when you grind the welds down and of curse as you fill, sand and paint.

Re: '50 AD Interior Door patchs

Wow, that looks good. I'm inspired to get off my butt and go out into the cold, cruel Southern California night (50-55 degrees) and do some work.

Seriously, its dark when I get home and I usually DON'T go out because it's "too cold" - which probably makes all you guys in the rest of the country roll your eyes and think, "What a pansy!" Sadly, kinda true! lol

Hey, HEY! I didn't expect to have to dodge rotten fruit thrown from one of my own!

Ok, I admit it...half the time I'm too damned lazy to throw on a sweatshirt, wander out to the garage and turn the lights on.

In S Indiana we have lights in the garage and a little heat and insulation.

I'm really happy I decided to fix the holes instead of living with crappy speakers in the door.
