shortbed driveshaft ?

OK guys so i have a longtail th350c tranny in an 81 short bed and its about on its last day but the good news is i have a fairly freshly rebuilt th350 out of a 73 camaro and a b&m shift improver kit to put into it,the only thing stopping me is that the new tranny is a short tail my question is will i be able to find a driveshaft from another shortbed to fit my setup or did alll trucks have the longtail tranny ,or can i just use the same driveshaft and the end just wont slide in the tranny as far

Re: shortbed driveshaft ?

they may interchange idk if you would have to change the tail housing and output shaft or just switch housings that would be nice to just switch housing and not have to hunt down a driveshaft

Re: shortbed driveshaft ?

From what Ive heard there are 3 different tailshaft lengths for TH350s, 6in, 9in, 12in. I do know you will need a different drive shaft for each of these tailshaft lengths.

Re: shortbed driveshaft ?

I have a drive shaft out of my 74 C10 swb that had a TH350 short tail (6in) and a 12bolt rear. The drive shaft measures 59.5 in from center u-joint to center u-joint. Maybe this will help if you can find a used drive shaft.

Re: shortbed driveshaft ?

there are short shaft trucks but finding a good one is somewhat of a rarity especialy since the move vehicles around in a scrapyard with a forklift and that fubars basicly all the driveshafts

Re: shortbed driveshaft ?

cool thanks for the info and ive also found out a th400 is the same length as a 6 in th350 so if i can find a truck with a 400 it will work too either way im getting out under some trucks this week to find one i put the street strip shift kit in my shortshaft today and in case anybody is curious its alot easier than you would think took me abt 2.5 hours and thats the first time ive ever gone deeper than changing the fluid filter lol
