Interchangable parts

I am fairly new to this site. I have found it to be very helpful in finding information, as I help my son get his 69 C10 on the road.
I am curious to find-out if there is a source for information about interchanging newer parts on these great older trucks.

Currently, I am looking to find year/make/model info to swap brake assemblies to convert to disks.
I have seen websites where we can buy a kit that has drop spindles, as well as a complete brake package, but I'd like to know if there is something sitting at the dismantler's yard that bolts-up.
Same thing with the steering column; Without major fabrication, what do you look for to swap to a tilt column?

Thanks again for past and future advice.

Re: Interchangable parts

Check out the sticky/FAQ on disc conversion here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=444815 .

There are lots of options for getting parts from the junkyard. I'm putting spindles from a 72 on my 68 C10 along with 72 ball joints and tie rod ends.

Re: Interchangable parts

71-72 C10 is a good way to swap only down side is they are 5lugs

most anything you swap in you wont b able to use the original wheels due to design of drum brake wheels from 68 wont clear disc brakes

Re: Interchangable parts

Going with a conversion kit is the only way to swap and have drop spindles. You can swap 71/72 parts directly and just buy drop spindles. You can swap later parts, too. You'll need to change the tie rod ends. I believe the entire a-frame assembly interchanges into the late '90s,though I can't say from experience.
