'82 Junker for off road play...

I just figured I'd show off my "pretty, little, souped-up 4 wheel drive." (sarcasm) that I picked up.

A friend has land that we play around with 4 wheeling and racing junk cars.

After wheeling around in it a bit, I'm thinking about building it up as a functional work truck. That would require a new cab, doors, front clip, and bed of some sort (factory or flatbed).

It's a 3/4 ton, 4 speed truck. Best I can tell, it has a Dana 44 and a 208 transfer case

Let me know if I'm off base on that or if there's anything I should look out for.

Clem

Re: '82 Junker for off road play...

If I do decide to rebody this truck and make a tow vehicle/work truck out of it...I don't think I'll lift it or anything. If I'm using it on the road for towing (Girlfriend has a horse and I have a junk habit...like to haul a car hauler), I don't need to be taking it into the woods and tearing stuff up. I figure the running gear it has should be sufficient for my purposes.

So...I think I ought to buy a donor truck (for the body) and a welder (to weld patches into the donor body...there is no such thing as a rust free tuck here in MO). Lol.

WOW that's going to take alot of work. I think for the money I'd find a better body and just swap the motor and trans and any other good parts onto the other truck. Poor truck has seen better days that's for sure.

seems to be alot of decent to immaculate shape trucks in the KC MO area.

Re: '82 Junker for off road play...

Well...first off...the motor is not that great in this one.

I could start with a better truck, and I may. However...it only needs completely redone (tongue-in-cheek). Seriously, though...if I get another truck that's not as bad, it's still going to need redone. I'm looking for a body-off restoration project...so it really doesn't matter.

And who knows...I may never do this one. I'll probably end up with something better to start with...or something completely different.

One important thing to remember when using your beat up old 4x4 is to choose a proper parking spot...like so:
