What is the best brand windshield gasket

I am installing a new windshield in my 69 GMC. My installer tried to use a LMC supplied gasket and it did not fit very well at all. I ordered the pre 70 gasket and matching trim. The trim would not stay in the groove. it seemed to be dimensionly off by a smidgen. They are now trying to install a Gasket I had got from Classic a while back. They say it looks to fit a little better. We'll see if it works. They did change the back glass using the LMC gasket with no problems.

However, what is the best Gasket brand to get and what supplier.

Both gaskets from LMC and Classic were in "Goodmark" boxes.

Thanks,
Dale

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

I have the same problem right now...Installer couldn't make the LMC work at all so he provided the "Correct" one, for $85. It's not worth a dam either..check the pics. Looks like he's got alot more time to spend on mine.

Mine is the same way on my 68 (with the trim). The windshield guy said it would work out when it got hot in the summer, but it didn't.

On my 69, I went with no trim and it fits fine.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

I don't remember the brand, but I used on on my 71 K10 that came from Classic Industries I think. I used the trim on mine as well.

It went in pretty good, much better than the horror stories I've read. I started with plenty of soapy water around the edge, and parachute cord on the seal. I did end up stretching the seal a bit at the top of the windshield under the visors, but it seals fine.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

precision gaskets always seem to work fine for me .i have had some in the past that i didnt think i could make work after looking at them on the glass before installing but i have always been able to force them to go in . i just dont give up.and i love my job.call around and get a glass man who wants to do the job for you not one that is forced to .i get excited to do the jobs no one else wants to do.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

Just put a used original windshield in my new '71 daily driver. Tried LMC gasket and it seemed to me it was too big and the windshield wanted to come out of the gasket. The Precision gasket did work. It took three of us to put the windshield in. It gets tricky when you get to the top corners. You just gotta keep pushing from the outside and work the rope around the corners.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

Just had a new windshield installed at a glass shop and I provided the gasket, Precision brand (with trim). They didn't say they had any trouble so I guess it went well.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

Thanks for all the good input and opinions. I ordered a new gasket from Steel
rubber products. I understand they source them from Precision. I'll try again
next week. Meanwhile, I hustled the truck over to my painter that painted the truck last year. I ask him to clean up and paint the Gasket channel to match the rest of the truck. He is also going to re-paint the top of the dash. He could not get the gun into that area of the windshield very well the first time around with the windshield in place.

And here is that install video that has already been posted to show how to do it right.

Hey Dale..make sure to tell the painter to paint the top of your dash flat or non-reflective or you will be staring at it's reflection from now on.

Re: What is the best brand windshield gasket

My painter wet sanded mine and didn't buff it out and it's perfect, now if I can get the seal right I'll be happy.
Lots of people don't realize the factory painted the dash tops flat untill its too late.

No this was my 71 Cheyenne 20 but the wrecker will get one from the same place hopefully this summer.

I paid $239 or something for the windshield and the install. For that price, I wouldn't dare try this on my own. I just know I would end up with a $200 dollar broken piece of glass!
