Which 6cyl is it?

how do you tell a 250 from a 230(235)?

just curious, stepdad is giving me his running 6 cyl he doesnt know which it is either...

If im not mistaken, the difference between the 230/250 is the stroke (crank). They use the same block and have the same bore. You could check the casting number on the crank. I have the same problem and i still havent found an easier way to tell the difference. But if it is a 230, i hear you can convert it to a 250.

distributor position is the dead giveaway , 230 , 250 292 the distributor is toward the front 216,235,261 is more towards the center .. also the belhousing pattern is different ,235 is directly on the back of the block , the 250 is wider at the rear and the same pattern as a 350 chevy ...
