Broken shock tower

Hey everyone,

I have a broken top shock tower on the rear passenger side of my 82 K30 and have called local junkyards but no one has a 1 ton, only 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks. I've looked around on the Internet but can't find anyone that sells them, my guess since the thing is riveted on the frame.

My question is: will the 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks shock towers fit the 1 ton or is it strickly 1 ton only? I haven't had the time to go to a junkyard to compare the shock towers so I'm hoping someone here can help.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Re: Broken shock tower

There are no shock towers on the 1/2 ton. The upper shock mount just bolts to the frame with a shock bolt.

Just throwing this out for something to think about, see other attachment, which shows the upper mount for a 1999+ ck. Look similar? If you goto Monroe, you can see if the upper shock eye is the same between the 1 ton and the 99, if it is, graft on an upper mount from a later truck.

Re: Broken shock tower

As 'old rusty c10' stated, the C/K30 utilizes an upper bracket specific to the C30 chassis. They mount inboard of the frame-rail vs. the upper stud that attaches to the outside of the frame on the smaller trucks.

You could look for someone parting a C30 out or build a new mount from steel.

Size: 51.4 KB Does it look anything like this one? Mine cracked where the shock bolt goes in, and I just welded on a couple thick washers. It's been about a year and haven't had any problems with it. This is on my C20 3/4 ton suburban.

Re: Broken shock tower

Thanks for all the responses.

Upon closer inspection of the shock tower today, I found that the shock bolt that is welded to the tower was broken off and not the shock tower itself. I felt relieved to see that, so I think I will fabricate and install a shock bolt for the thing and call it a day.

Thanks for all your advice.

Re: Broken shock tower

Glad you can work this out man.

FYI, GM is also a decent source. My Dad's 94 K1500 rear shock mounts rotted out, but he was able to buy new pieces from GM. That may also be possible for the C/K30 squares
