Project: 1965 Work Truck

Ive bought a 65 longbed step side about a month ago and Ive been working on it as much as I can. A little info before I post pics. Im a sales rep for an auto parts store here in Michgan. Basically i go around to all the shops and make sure everything is going all right and b.s. with them. So I decided to build an old shop truck for my work truck. I have a build thread on another site so I will catch everyone up to speed. Here is the truck after I bought it.

I picked it up without thee motor or trans. Thats ok because I have a 350 I cleaned up and powder coated.

I also stripped the engine bay and painted it

I want a short bed fleetside. I found a long box fleetside and decided to just make my own shortbed. So 12" out of the front and 8"oout of the rear.

I know what you mean about the long bed. mine was a long bed when I got it but it didnt have a bed so I found one. I decided I wanted a shortbed but cutting the bed and frame down seemed like tooo much work me. Cant wait to see more pics and how the bed turns out. good job

Yep thats the effect I want Capt. I want to thank you for all your input/knowledge you share about the disc brake conversion. My father in law runs a junk yard so I did some checking and found a 79. We cut the frame and brought it home. Now I will clean everything up and then slide it under the truck. The only thing I was not sure on is which holes to elongate? I wanted to do everything before I slide it under the truck. I will be getting the mount for my booster from you soon.

I havent been working on the truck rather fighting a cold. I hate being sick. It really cuts into my garage time. I did drop my valve covers,air cleaner, and water neck off to a friend who striped them for me. He sent me pics today so I gotta get better now.



I cant wait to get them put on. They turned out real nice.

I cant wait to get the guy who did the striping over to do the inside of the cab. Im starting to feel better so I think in the morning Im gonna to build a fire in the woodstove so I dont waste anytime. I picked up new calipers,rotors,pads,ball joints,and tie-rods from work. I love working at parts store!! Now I need to get the 79 cross member in the garage and start tearing it down.

Well its been a while since Ive been on here. My 8yr. old has practice 2 nights a week and when its cold out its hard to get motivated. But I have managed to get the lower control arms cut for my air bags. Ive been working on the passenger side floor pan and rocker. I just got new bushings and ball joints put in my control arms so I will be setting the air bags up soon. Ive already put the 79 crossmember in and drilled the new holes. So back out and put it all together. Heres a few pictures for ya.....

So I started to put the crossmember back together. Now I will need a hand getting it put in. A friend of mine is coming over this weekend to help. So while I wait for him I worked on the passenger floor board. I picked up a gallon of the dupli-color bed liner that I was going to do the floor in. Has anyone used it on there interior? If so how did you like it? Thanks for any input.

So I was able to get some more done on the truck. The crossmember is in it, the bags are hooked up to shop air, the rotors got re-drilled to small bolt pattern, got to tear more of the drivers side floor board apart, and did a test paint job on the fender. Primed it then shot it with paint then I lightly sanded unyil the primer was poking through in some spots. I want it to look weathered.

I got to work in the garage today just long enough to get the inner rocker replaced. I had plans to work on the truck all day but I spent almost all my time working on other peoples stuff. So heres a picture of what I did do.

So Ive been tinkering with the truck now that the weather has been warming up. I have managed to finish the floors and rockers, get the interior pin striped, paint the cab,bumper,and grille. I also bought my rims and tires. I ended up going with the torque thrust D's for that old school hot rod look. I know the truck isnt as nice as some of the builds on here but Im working on a very limited buget.

Used the bedliner coating on the floor today. So what do you guys think so far?

What brand of bedliner did you use? Looks good to me.
