New Wheels 1968 SWB

After many months of messing around I finally got my new wheels installed on my truck.
It took about 2 months to get them custom built by ET/Team III wheels in California.
Fronts are 15x7 Backs are 15x14
These are the Classic 5's polished
I used Mickey Thompson front tires and rears are Hoosier Prostreet radials 15x 18.5 x 31
I changed the back axles to Moser 5x5 pattern - fronts are disc 5x5
I used ARP studs all the way around
I used Hawk ceramic pads up front to keep brake dust off the wheels
The Wheels really change the way the truck looks - I have gotten a ton of compliments on the new wheels.
I used these wheels for a couple of reasons - to stuff 18.5" wide rubber under the stock rearend requires very specfic offsets - ones that no other company was willing or able to tackle.
These are not fly weight wheels they should last very easliy under a big block truck with no fears of failure.
The polish job on these wheels are amazing - they look chrome plated
Real eye candy

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

Those look super! I don't want to sound like a lazy man, but would you mind sharing your off set measurements to have the rear wheels built? If not, that's cool. A local guy has done this with steel truck rallys and standard length axles. It looks mean going down the road. Again, you have a beautiful truck. The tail lights look factory, I probably would not have noticed.

I like all kinds of wheels and wheel materials/finishes.

But there's just something special about polished aluminum or mag. that makes the wheels look as rich as butter.

Very nice truck. All the way around.

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

don't mean to jack your thread but just had to throw a couple in these are 15x12 with 6.5 bs. I heard that you can go 15x12 7.5 bs and fit the tires you have on the 67-68 rears. I went ahead and made a little clearance on my lip cas the 6.5 with drop is a little close for comfort

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

Front tires are 215/70/15 Mickey Thompson Sportsman
Front wheels are 15x7 with 3.5" of Back spacing

Rear tires are 31 x 18.5 x 15 Hoosier Pro Street Radials
Rear wheels 15 x 13 with 8.75" back spacing

Before you buy wheels make sure you know what they measure - every wheel company has a different way to measure a set of wheels - these actually measure 13.75 on the inside of the hoop - 14.25 to the outside
I swear I measured my wheels 12 times before I ordered new wheels - I mocked different parts up and did everything I could to make sure I was not going to get bit in the butt.

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

a 12" wheel does not meet Hoosier requierments for rim width- you end up pinching the tire to much.
If you got it on the rim it would run on the center of the tread.

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

I love the period correct wheels! That is a great looking truck IMO...

I just got some Classic 5 wheels from Team III as well.I live pretty close so I went to the shop to order. Took my rotors so he could double check my measurements. Lucky I did because the rotors needed to be turned a bit at the area surrounding the outer bearing. Long story short great service and knowledge. I ended up talking wheels and manufacturing/machining for way too long, so much for taking one hour for lunch!

Guess I shouldn't rave too much cuz then everyone is going to get them.

Re: New Wheels 1968 SWB

CST - I also had to have the hubs turned down on my brake rotors
Scott needs to increase the hub ID on the wheels - the hub ID he uses is based the smaller bolt pattern car hubs not the larger patteren used on big cars or trucks- he can do it and still have enough meat left to be safe.
.060 is what we had to take off both steps on the hub
You are right he makes a great wheel
He really hit a home run on my back wheels - they had to take two hoops - split them and reweld them to get the correct offset
