Short in headlight wiring

I have an 85 Scottsdale. Recently I cut my headlights on and noticed that all the gauges went to zero. After changing the headlight switch, the gauges started working. However, today when I switched from low to high beam the gauges shorted out again.
Has anyone had this problem and resolved it?
I do not have any wiring diagrams for truck.

Re: Short in headlight wiring

You have a ground problem for the instrument cluster lights. Whats is happening, is when the lamps come on, they pull the nearest ground ( thru the guages). Its called feeding back thru the circuit. Check your connector and ground feed where the main cable plugs into the printed circuit board, and check to make sure there is no damage to the printed circuit board. I beleive that when you changed the switch, you bumped or wiggled the harness enough to get it working, then it went back to lost grnd.
