Pics of OEM 1972 seats

I need to do a bench seat for a 1972 stock rebuild. Anyone have pics of seats for this year that are original or reproductions to original patterns/design? The truck is a Custom trim level but I would consider upgrading to Deluxe or Cheyenne also if the Custom isn't nice.

Re: Pics of OEM 1972 seats

That's a Cheyenne Super cover. The Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers are available off the shelf and in variations never offered as well. The Custom (base) and Custom Deluxe (which is what you need) aren't reproduced.

Here are the '72 truck seats:

Here are the Custom Deluxe and Custom seats in '72 Suburbans...same as pickup:

Why would I need the custom deluxe and not the custom? I like the appearance of the custom and would like this to be a stock restoration except for having full depth foam. Would all vinyl and full depth not work well? Seeing as how I'll probably have to have something custom (no pun intended) made, i should be able to get the custom look in a full depth foam version? I don't know much about upholstery thats for sure- I turn wrenches.

No more good pics, but I know for sure that you could get a full foam set on a custom. This truck was a custom and it had the optional full foam seat listed on the SPID.

Thats good news. That looks like the regular custom vinyl only seat cover, right? Do you think they made a larger vinyl only cover to fit over the thicker foam or did it just fit tighter?

I bought a new 1969 gmc and a 1972 chevy, both customs w/full foam seats. They both had the scrolled vinyl covers. If this helps to confuse you.

Re: Pics of OEM 1972 seats

I recently restored a base level blazer (with the custom style vinyl) for a customer, and found NOS seat material from SMS Auto Fabrics, in Oregon. I don't have the phone # handy but if you Google them, they are easy to find.

I thought you meant you had the custom comfort & convenience option, which in 71/72 was the Custom Deluxe. Before that it would have been a called a Custom. Custom became the base model name in 71/72,which had the basic vinyl seat cover. Sorry for any confusion.

Re: Pics of OEM 1972 seats

Make sure you specify that it has 26 pleats. The blazer rear seat is narrower and only has 20. I would bet they have what you need.

Don't forget the Highlander! I've seen them in Blue, but here's Orange. Orange plaid interior... I think it's an acquired taste.

Unless I'm mistaken, this photo is GMC... the stripes in the Chevrolet ran vertically.

I agree, but its a taste I have not yet acquired and it would look out of place in my custom.

This is coincidental, I was looking at my '71 SWB 4x4 and going over the SPID and understood everything but the Z62 Custom Deluxe w/ 601 Black Cloth. I've never seen the 601 option. Kool, Thanks

BTW - the current southwest version of the 601 option - it sparkles!
