67 ram assist steering pic needed

I am looking for someone who can post a pic of the correct pulley's needed for ram assist on a 67. Here's what I have, a it doesn't line up correctly. Do I need a long or short water pump, and which crank pulleys will I need? Don't know which side the alternator belongs on either. I plan on running hooker ceramic coated headers, but not set in stone on that. I have a set of stock exhaust manifolds I could use. Here's a link to the engine I"ll be using.

I've seen that post before, thanks! I'm trying to figure out if that's a short or long water pump.

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

From your pictures you have a long water pump with matching pulleys, to use the 67 pump and ps brackets you have pictured you will need a short water pump with matching pulleys and brackets, in the factory configuration the alternator goes on the drivers side,
In order to use a 67/68 alternator bracket you will need the same year drivers side exhaust manifold, but you can use the 69-72 alternator brackets that bolt to the head.

Mine was a 283, now a 350. If needed, I can get some pics for you tomorrow afternoon, but not sure if it's "correct", though it works fine.

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

I have all the pulleys and brackets you need to make it work, either factory correct for 67/68 or using the 69-72 styles.
Would make you a great deal if I don't have to ship anything and I am always up for trading

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

well I think I ran into a problem. I took a short water pump I had and it won't cause it hits the aluminum timing cover. Is there more than 1 type of short water pump?

As far as I know there is only one short water pump.

Here is a picture of the 67/68 pulleys and brackets

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

LockDoc- that would be great thanks.

Livrat-let me see if I can fix the water pump problem first, and then go from there.

vectorit-thanks for the pics

wondering if there's a pulley for a long water pump that would make this setup work? My 67 frame doesn't have the indentation for a different ps box, so I need to make this work some how.

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

LockDoc- the short water pump in ur pic is different than the one I have. Will you please measure the distance from the back of the pump to the block for me, when you have time. My pump only has 1 water neck on the side and ur's has 1 on the top and 1 on the side.

Thanks!

It's the same... just covered with crud. All short water pumps are the same. He's just using the coolant passage on the top of the pump, where most applications will have it blocked off.

Gary is right. There are only two water pumps, long and short. All longs are the same and all shorts are the same. Maybe if you get into the custom ones for racing there would be a difference.

Re: 67 ram assist steering pic needed

This is the short waterpump off my 67 (belive its a '69 engine) when I had it apart recently. My 67 has the later power steering setup on it although when I got it nothing lined up properly and I ended up fitting a used pump, brackets and pulley setup as it was a collection of badly bodged together parts. Unfortunately all the work I put in cleaning up and painting the damn pump recently was a total waste of time as when I put it back on and filled it up the damn thing now leaks, must have been all the oily crud keeping it watertight, the bearings now noisy too so I have a brand new airtex pump waiting on a coat of paint and then I'll replace it. My truck has an aftermarket (rusty!) chrome timing cover and it clears it just fine, maybe the aluminium cover you have is taller than a standard one and only fits under a long pump. Hope the pictures help
