350 Transmission

I have a 85 Scottsdale and the new problem I am having is this, when the trans is put in gear the engine vibrates. It does not matter what selection I make forward or reverse.
The trans was overhauled w/new torque converter and only has about 80 miles on it.
Has anyone had this problem or know what this could be?

Re: 350 Transmission

Could be you tune is off...unless there is something wacky with your flywheel or torque converter

It would vibrate all the time if it was the converter. At least any of them i have seen vibrate done it all of the time.
Sounds like a miss or maybe carb half stopped up or vacuum leak.
Does it change with rpm?

Re: 350 Transmission

Thanks= It only vibrates when you are stopped and as soon as you accellerate (or start moving) it stops.
The engine runs pretty smooth when it is in park. I will check the vaccum just to be sure.

Re: 350 Transmission

RS 72 is right. A bad converter or flywheel will vibrate without reguard for in or out of gear. If it is smooth in neutral or park the coverrter is ok. Is the vac modulator hooked up properly? How about the dist cap? I can't count the number of times I half knocked the cap off pulling a trans. Check secondary wireing also. jim

The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

Re: 350 Transmission

Broken engine mount or trans mount? Have someone watch under the truck as you power brake it.

Re: 350 Transmission

another thing to check is that all the bellhousing bolts are tight. have also had loose torque converter bolts do something similar. would vibrate in low rpm cruising speeds. tightened them up and it went away.
