Clearance between the inner and outer roof skins?

Going to replace the outer cab skin on Attempt/Mistake #2 and was wondering if anyone knows how much space is between the outer and the inner skin. Would really like to insulate the heck out of it if there is enough room to do that. Dynamat + Lizard Skin if there is a substantial amount of space and if it is really small amount just Lizard Skin I guess. Would really like to have both in there though!

Don't remember exactly how much distance was there when I was cutting sunroofs. But it does taper down thin in the middle. Here is a fun picture to ponder your question over. Just be careful about trapping moisture in there.

Wow cool picture! Hmm may just have to spray the Lizard Skin in if it's really small space. I'll dry it extra good before I apply anything and make sure to get it dry as can be.

Re: Clearance between the inner and outer roof skins?

I put sound deadner pad between my roof skins when I changed my inner and outer roof skins with no problems. Do not know if you could put both. Check out my build page below and you can see pictures of how much clearance there is in the picture were the old sunroof was.

Re: Clearance between the inner and outer roof skins?

I just had my outter skin replaced last week I got from LMC. I also bought theinner panel but did not end up using it. There is a very small amount of room between the two of them in the main middle section of the roof. There was a 1/8" at best rubber mat in the middle. As you get closer to the front windshield there is much more room. That is were mine was rusting through. I didn't change or add anything to mine. I also took the drip rail off at the same time.

Re: Clearance between the inner and outer roof skins?

I didnt realize top banana had em, thanks...

and I love how, on the last post, the sun visors are still installed, all while the truck is being scalped..LOL

since the top skin is spot welded to the rear panel, does the new panel go in and get welded along the outside of the seam? guess there would be no other way

Welded a beed all the way along the back where the original spot welds were holding it together. Then when finished for paint the plan it to have it nice and smooth and not see the seem anymore.
