Re: gas cap for 72

i've always just used the tube that went to the charcoal canister from the gas tank as a vent so i could use the stock gascap

Re: gas cap for 72

I believe the 72, since it had the beginnings of emission equipment on it, was a sealed system to recover the vapors. Therefore, it would be a non-vented cap. I am sure more knowledgeable will chime in though.

Re: gas cap for 72

I have an NOS cap in a GM box with part number 6263474. I was told it's correct for my 72 C10. On the underside it is stamped pressure vacuum. I assume this means it is not vented. It is identical to the cap on my 72 which I believe to be the original cap.

correct, it is vented thru a charcoal canister under the hood with lines running from the tank

You have it backwards. The '67 - '70 or '71 were vented and the '72's were non-vented.
