Plug wires & plugs
Today I pulled a plug wire off my 85 scottsdale ( 350 Eng) and it made no difference in the running of it. I continued removing one by one and 4 of the 8 made no difference in the way the engine run. I am confused.
The dist is electronic and is putting out based on the spark from the wire to the cap. Has anyone had this happen to them & if so what was the fix. The engine does not run that bad but I am confused as to why removal of a plug wire does not make a difference when it is removed. |

Re: Plug wires & plugs
I accidently wired 2 of my cylinders out of the firing order and noticed that it would idle fine, but when I'd drive it (put the engine under load) it'd start to backfire and miss.

Re: Plug wires & plugs
had a friend of mine help me do a tuneup once and he accidentally switched the center 2 plug wires on the passanger side of the motor around. probably never would have caught it but everyonce in a while sitting at a light idling it would let out a light pop and die.

Re: Plug wires & plugs
I'm sure you'd notice when you put the engine under load. I'm surprised you could pull off 4 plug wires and it ran for you.

Re: Plug wires & plugs
Sorry for confusion, I pulled them off one at a time and put them back.
I've taken truck into pep-boys for diagnostic test. |
