Your old posi probably broke from improper maintenance. But,the Auburn is a stouter design I think.

This is for a 12-bolt 30 spine? I found a listing for 3.73-down carrier:

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
What you have now sounds like a Gov-lock. They are famous for breaking because they use centrifugal weights to engage, or lock.
I would run an Eaton LSD. They're very durable and rebuildable. The Auburn LSD's are great units, but they're not rebuildable http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/Produc...and=Eaton_Posi

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
I'm wondering if 3.73's will be too much but I am leaning that way to get the true trac.
Oh yea, the busted LSD is a powertrax. One of the pins is jammed in there. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
Give DTS a call they will get you you need plus more and at a fair price.
browse through the web site. they even carry the x-tra thick gears for different series carriers to fit each other. example 3.08 gear fit series 4 carrier. www.drivetrainspecialists.com |

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
I had a 3.73 gear with 28" and 29" tires. It was ok, but trying to drive 70mph on the interstate wasn't alot of fun. I finally switched to a 3.07 this spring. I lost some bottom end, but it's great to be able to drive in the fast lane with other traffic. I personally wouldn't go 3.73's if you do alot of highway driving. Unless, of course, you don't mind staying at 60 in the slow lane the whole time.

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
Powertrax is far from the strongest locker out there. Most cases a different area of a 12 bolt will give up before a Eaton posi will..

Went with truetrac and 373's. Should keep those 15" wide mickeys going.

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
If you go a little taller on your tires it will drop ratio a bit. when you need new tires of course. I am running 373's in my Jeep with 33's does good on highway. Went with 373's in My 70 GMC4x4 with 33's also.

Re: No truetrac / 3.42 combo! What now?
I probably will go with that as well, my tires are 28.5" tall, and will probably be just over 3K @ 70-75.
Thanks |
