Coil wire.

Is this wire for checking the rpm's. The wire by the coil. I never had a TBI carb truck before. It is on a 1987, with a 305.

Re: Coil wire.

If I'm not mistaken, something else plugs in there as well.

My coil is good, but if I need a new one what brand should I get?

Re: Coil wire.

AC Delco replacement is the best way to go for stock replacement. No matter who you go with, drill the rivets out of the stock bracket and use the new bolts to install the coil in the stock bracket. It is much stronger and looks stock when you are done.

Thanks. My coil has bolts in the bracket. It may have been changed at one time. I may replace it even tho it is running alright. If we sell our house we will be moving to Texas. I will drive it over 900 miles, and I don't want it to give me any trouble. I live in Joliet, IL.

Re: Coil wire.

No problem! I put an MSD Streetfire coil on my truck, but I also upgraded the distributor and valvetrain. I am planning on an MSD ignition in the near future, so I just figured I would go with a little hotter coil. But for street driving and no major upgrades, I think the AC Delco is definitely the way to go.
BTW, I don't live to far south of you. I am in Lafayette, IN, right across the river from Purdue.
