Re: rubber rad hose pieces for stock 4x4

I got mine down at the autoparts store. Just ask for a straight piece of molded hose in that size and cut it to length. I have a set of original 4x4 hoses with GM markings on a truck yet and was thinking of getting a stamp made to duplicate but someone probably already has these available too. Mark

Randy - I replaced mine recently. Napa did not list the two separate segments. Napa listed a Gates hose made in Mexico that was straight not molded and sold by the foot. It was pricey actually. If you need pics I can post some. Pete

I don't know of these being made by anyone. I just cut straight hose from a length.

Re: rubber rad hose pieces for stock 4x4

I can't remember where I sourced my straight pieces for each end of the radiator pipe (I like saying radiator pipe because it makes people's heads tilt like my dog's).
However let me share a trick. Some of you guys probably already know this one. When cutting a radiator hose or heater hose, spit on the spot you are cutting - or pour a little water on it. The knife cuts way better with that water acting like a lubricant.

Re: rubber rad hose pieces for stock 4x4

I've had to do the same, make something else fit. I'm a firefighter and we have a stock of unwanted cars behind the firehall for auto-ex practice.....gold mine for random parts. Made a rad hose from a couple I found. I think I cut a staight one on an angle, got a "barbed-hose-clamp" style connector at the hardware store(for like black plastic well line), and joined two hoses. No leaks, never an issue, maybe an hour in the laneway.

TIP: Odd sized rad hose, under the hot water in the kitchen sink,(when the warden isn't around) can be stretched to fit over fittings slightly smaller.

Re: rubber rad hose pieces for stock 4x4

THANKS to ALL of you for the info, I guess I'll head to the parts store. I have some original hose clamps I'm going to try to use. Thanks again, Randy

Re: rubber rad hose pieces for stock 4x4

I don't use a plain radiator hose chopped up to fit, since it is just plain mickey mouse.

What you need is the rigid hose with wire in it, and not the flex universal fit type either.
If you use plain hose, it will balloon over time and just be floppy which the pipe was intended to prevent.

The hose material I use is from an industrial hose/fitting supply house, and it's basically fuel hose that's USCG rated. I use it on my fuel fill, as well as the radiator up hose pieces. Keeps the metal pipe from sagging, and will last for many years worry free of bursting.
