Why can't we be loud?

Why are the Harley's I hear on the road aloud to be so noisy? Just curious because I have heard alot of guys not wanting to exceed the noise limits for motor vehicles.

Motorcylces have no restrictions on emissions or noise level's...kinda sucks huh? Harley's are so loud, because most of them are just basically running open headers (think of it that way at least, cuz if you run open headers on your truck, it'd be the same effect.)

The Harley depdending on the equipment will be loud.

I have a 02 model that isn't loud at all in the stock form. If upgraded including pipes and carb redone it would be loud.

I've been riding since I was very young. Loud bikes are easier to see for drivers. They hear the noise and look more.

No matter how big a bike is, drivers claim to not see one. Goldwings as big as they are with all the lights they have are the same, not seen.

Just my .02

Yeah, even with the Triumph I will get I will have the loud pipes save lives motto along with me.
I was just curious because where I live there is a guy with a damn loud bike (Harley sorry Harley owners) and he fires it up about 9-10pm every night in front of the local bar about 2 blocks away, it drives me crazy, not just because it is loud, oh no, he has got to show off how loud it can be revving the motor several hundred times before he rides off, I just don't understand the mentality of people like that isn't that what the race track is for? I swear a couple of times the kids have come down stairs to ask what the noise is. It pisses me off, sorry to rant and rave about this but it drives me crazy. I would hope I will be more respectful when I get my bike but if I find out where this loser lives I will spend about 10min. creating some good looking crop circles in his front yard.
