running a 31x18x15 on a 64 fleet

ok i got a 64 fleetside an i want to be able to lay it down low dont have to touch the ground but i want it low. with that being said what would i have to do to run a 31x18x15 mickey thompson sportsman on the back end. like how much do i need to narrow it an do i need a narrower rear or just custom offset wheels with the trailing arms moved inward

Trailing arms can remain in their OE location but w/back-spacing limits.
Deep back-space wheels w/a stock width housing would work but also be a PITA to install the wheel/tire. You would have to drop the rear end a bunch to be able to wedge the wheel into place.
Narrowing the housing (or using a housing from a diff application that's already shorter width) allows less back-spacing & is easier to get the wheel installed.

Are you looking to do something like this?

You'd have to use a housing from a S10 or similar (or narrow the housing as far as possible) to use T/A's to keep it cheap-ish. One thing to consider early-on is what wheel you intend to run & what BS options are available. Common 15x14 bs is 4".

Obviously an OE S10 housing wouldn't be up to the task. There has been more than 1 S10 on the track though so a quick search on the web @ someplace like racingjunk might find a 9"/Dana/12-bolt that came out of one....

I had a set on a 67 w/a stock width rear end & custom back-spaced wheels (a long, long, time ago so no pics).

The coil-overs had to be disconnected to drop the rear end enough to install/remove the wheels. It also was not as low as where Dino's truck is at so I can't say if the set-up would work w/truck-arms @ that height.

Truck 12-bolts through mid-year 1970 = 62"
After mid-year 1970 - 87 = ~63.5"

What kind of photos are you looking for (rearend housing, tire/wheel, or side profile of stance, etc.)? I'm running a set of vintage 16x13 wheels with 31x18-16 tires. If you're looking for specific measurements, my advice is to select the wheel and tire combo you want, mock it up with the chassis and bed, and then measure for rearend width. Then narrow the housing according to those dimensions.

Here's my combination...both angles in one shot since I'm still plumbing and wiring (no bed floor).

Ok how wide is your rear cause that's exactly what I want mine to look like. an it looks as if you didn't narrow the frame at all an it will clear frame an bedsides

Re: running a 31x18x15 on a 64 fleet

I narrowed my housing to 51" (flange to flange). There is no need to narrow the frame width since there is so much room...just need to get the backspacing of the wheels correct for the total width of the rearend assembly.

Re: running a 31x18x15 on a 64 fleet

ok so i guess unless i want a wheel with very little inset on the front or more less a flat front an a big deep rim on back i need to narrow the axle but not frame i guess that aint but so bad now got to find someone to narrow my axle reasonable priced around here or can it be done at home with a jig. or should i leave it for the proffessional

Re: running a 31x18x15 on a 64 fleet

I would find a rearend shop or race car fabricator in your area to weld on the housing ends...it requires a jig/alignment fixture. I've had this one for many years: http://markwilliams.com/detail.aspx?ID=163

Make sure you select the tire and wheel combination first and take your measurements with them mocked up at ride height. In additon to chassis and rearend housing centerline, be sure to take into account the stand off of the axle flange and type of brakes you plan to run. If I go to the extent of narrowing a housing, I typically go with aftermarket axles.
