Dash Pad Passenger Side Screws

So, as I have torn apart the entire interior of the '87 V30 to scrub everything clean, install Dynamat Extreme EVERYWHERE, and generally get all the restoration work done, I have a question about the dash pad.

As I was removing the dash pad from the truck, the 4 screws along the bottom edge on the passenger side were secured in with the normal interior u-clip nuts pictured below.

There were a few anomalies I found make me think those clips were not the proper way the dash screws were secured to the dash because as soon as I removed the screw, the clips simply fell out and down to the floor. There really isn't a way to secure those u-clips into the slots properly. Can anyone confirm whether these u-clips are proper or not?

Steve

Re: Dash Pad Passenger Side Screws

There should be oval shaped white plastic clips that snap into the holes on the metal dash that the screws screw into, no U-clips were used over there. U-clips were however used on the drivers side for the dash bezel.

This is exactly what I thought! The shape to me meant there was a plastic insert...I cannot seem to find them or any description of them anywhere on the internet!

Re: Dash Pad Passenger Side Screws

I know what type of inserts you are talking about, but I've usually only see square type ones. The holes in the dash indicate these need to be rectangular unless I am just think wrong. Which is why a picture would be helpful if anyone has one on hand.

Re: Dash Pad Passenger Side Screws

It doesn't seem like the u-clips would be a bad idea but you can see the bottom of the u-clip sticking out slightly...kinda strange but I do like the u-clips over the plastic inserts since inserts always wear out and stuff comes loose. Especially with adding some big wattage to the audio system, I want everything solid!
