Here's what I need to do, Any ideas?

The Tach swap thread gave me this idea. If a tach can be swapped in why not a speedometer head? I have a NV3500 tranny in my truck, it has a electronic speedometer output, no place for a cable. I want to gut out my factory cable driven speedometer assy from the gauge cluster and install the speedometer mechanism from the truck that the tranny came from while still using the stock face plate and needle. Has anyone pulled this magic trick off?

I have had that same thought, although I have not done it. I just don't know how 'simple' it would be to wire up and make work. It is a possibility that the pcm will be needed for the speedo to operate. Then you also need to have an electronic speedo that has the same sweep and the same distance between the mph marks.

I have seen the cable-x system before, I was hoping to get it working cheaper than $300. captain fab has some good points tho.
