Do I need to lube my wheel bearings?

he guys,

I have a 1986 K20 Suburban (see my sig).

we use it as our daily driver and I do most maintenance myself. Just finished lubing the whole car...and now I am wondering if I need to lube the wheel bearings?

we drive about 20.000 km per year (12.000 miles)...

My Haynes only says in 2WD versions to check and repack the front wheel bearings every 30.000 miles.

So are my wheel bearings maintenance free?

Not sure about 4x4s, rule of thumb with 2WD is the front wheel bearings should be repacked at least every 30,000 miles or whenever you do your front brakes. Rear axle bearings on 2WD don't require routine service as they are kept lubricated by the 90 wt oil, and should be changed every 10,000 miles (or every 3rd engine oil change).

I'm probably not much help, just sharing what I know.

i believe that notyo is saying your rear differential oil should be changed every 10K which is a bit much for me i check it/ top it off every third oil change but change it only if i have to service the rear or replace seals . I b elieve rear bearings on a 4X4 are the same setup as on a 2WD.. and the wheel bearings should be greased every time you do brakes up front
