Aftermarket steering column

I would like to order a steering column for my 66 I have looked at Ididit and Flaming river and on Ebay there is other ones too. Maybe some of you guys that have done these could let me know which column you used and the good and bad of it and the length of the column you used.
Thanks again for the help

Re: Aftermarket steering column

Since I am a tall, larger guy, I usually get a column about 2" shorter than stock. You'd be amazed how much more roon it gives you, especially with the tilt. JMO

Re: Aftermarket steering column

I think most everybody orders a 32 inch, but if you order a 30 inch, you can adjust to your liking and make up the differance with the intermediate shaft. I personally used a `86 jeep cherokee tilt column, they are also made by saginaw like all the GM lineup.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

i used a ididit retrofit series, retrofit "means made to fit" so it was a no brainer. think i got it from summit. it came with 2 different harness plugs, the tilt and turn signal stems.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

Summit racing "makes" steering columns... I havent used one yet but have heard positive things. They are made by a major manufacturer for Summit so they come in at a good price point.... check them out HERE

Thanks for the link. I would rather buy from summit than off Ebay.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

I have a flaming River that I ordered in the spring that I still need to install. I was hoping to do it in the next few weeks. I ordered that one since it was stainless and I didn't want to paint it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Aftermarket steering column

I bought a chrome CPP unit off of Flea Bay it's 33in. to put in the wife's 64. She's only 5' 3" so it should fit her pretty good. I have a shallow dish steering wheel to put on it. Everything should come together this winter I hope.
