anyone hook up an ipod?
to a 2001 silverado? I have the single CD (no-CD changer) AM/FM/CD original radio still. Have seen a few options - PAC ISGM73 and Pie GM9 Aux input adapter. But I'm not sure what all pieces I need to complete....
would prefer to do it myself, but I'm nore nuts and bolts than trons and ohms... thanks guys. |

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
you can get a deal that plugs into your cigarette lighter(or battery power) and then to your ipod that emits a frequency(radio station) that plays the songs through your vehicles stereo.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
Or you could get an FM/CD/iPod compatible head unit for like fifty bucks. Mine was $100 and it has three sub preouts, built in HPF, etc., as well as in deck iPod control. A less equipped deck with just a 3mm input on front would be much cheaper. And still better sound quality than the stock radio, no matter what you get. You just lose the stock look.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
^That's what I did with my S-10. I think I paid 60 for the stereo and I also bought a cheap adapter kit and a wire adapter kit so I didn't have to cut up the stock harness. My silverado has a tape deck and I use that for my ipod in that, so I lucked out.
I did have one of the FM frequency devices but I ended up tossing it because you would have to constantly change the channel when traveling and if driving near a big city almost every dang channel (you only have stations available at the low and high end of the frequencies) had some kind of interference.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
Yes there are companies that make an adapter that plugs into the aux port on the back of the radio and comes with a cable to route to where ever you need it to connect to the ipod. some of the adapters actually allow ipod control thru the cd changer controls on the face of the radio. Your radio however must have the aux button on the front for these to work. Ebay has several listed.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
The radio I have is factory but I would like to plug up the ipod to it or even my phone to it. So I'm asking if there's and aux cable that plugs up to your radio or a mod that can be done?

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
I bought one of these for my '06 but haven't put it in yet.
http://diceelectronics.com/fmrds-usb-pro I don't really want to change out the factory unit because of the Bose system.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
I have an 07 Trailblazer SS. i bought a gateway from Pac audio. It took about an hour to connect. I now have a connector for my IPOD, and satelite radio. I did NOT cut a wire, and it is smokin hot! $250. here is a link. Oh yea the IPOD is charged thru this unit.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
Best of just to throw in a new head unit. pretty darn easy. And this way you can get all the bells and whistles (aux, ipod, cd, dvd, bluetooth) I installed mine by myself for the first time in about a half hour

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
I ordered an adapter for my 2003 silverado from Crutchfield. Around $75 I think. They send you all the instructions to install it, and have tech support by phone that will walk you through it. When you're finished you plug in a cord to the adapter and the other end to your Ipod speaker jack. It sounds great with the factory Bose speakers.

Re: anyone hook up an ipod?
Thanks for all the help guys - here is what I went with: http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=36
It works great, pretty simple install, and I put the ipod in the ash tray and never look at it. No external wiring showing. Could also put it in the glove box, but I have the nano and it fits just right in the ash tray. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Edit: btw, forgot to mention that pac-audio had incredible customer service. No kidding, answered the phone, answered my questions, and were downright friendly. Why can't all busniesses be lie that!? Thanks again. |
