Frame ??

Hello all, First time poster here. I am looking to build a chevy short box 4x4 for a dune toy. My question is, will a 4x4 frame from a 73-87 bolt up to a 67-72 body? Will there be any issue's in doing this if it would work?
Great forum! Thanks, Nick

Re: Frame ??

First off, Welcome to the board. Yes, it can be done. There are a handful of frame modifications that are need for a 67-72 body to mate with a square body frame. For starters the body mounts on the frame are different. I've never done this, so I not sure of all of them. I recommend doing a search under this board (4x4 section) to find the folks that accomplished this mod.

Re: Frame ??

Hello to a fellow Michigander! Silver Lake is one of my favorite places to wheel--- anything!

Check out my 4x4 build, that will help a bit.. There is a pretty extreme "kickup" in the later model frame that you'll need to compensate for, the front clip mounts will need to be moved to center the tires in the wheelwell too.

Good luck and post pictures!

Re: Frame ??

thanks that gave me a good idea of what it will take to make it work. It will be a little while till I start my build, I'm just getting ideas. I would like to find a short box 4x4 but they are hard to find. A guy at my work has a 67 4x2 and I was thinking I could put an axle underneath it with a coil over suspension. But he said the body is pretty rough, so we'll see how it pan's out.

Re: Frame ??

With all the length of the long box frame I cut up for my project, it ended up the same wheelbase as my 89 K5, plus or minus a 1/4". picks of your buddy's truck?

Re: Frame ??

I done mine back in 86 and have really had no problems. I would like to upgrade the brakes at sometime. I am running all disks with the orginal master and booster. It works but I have to change the master every couple years.

Re: Frame ??

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 4" wheelbase difference between the two? I believe the W/B for the 67-72 longbed is 127" while the wheelbase is 131" for the 73-87, no?
