Does anyone have a pic of the backside of their cowl hood? Or at least let me know if there is a spot to where I can seal up an air filter?
I want to get a cowl but I'm not going to waste the money if I can't make it functional. Thanks |

Re: Backside of Cowl Hood?
Until a couple of weeks ago, I had a steel "cowl induction" hood, but it was not feasible to seal it to the air filter. The bracing was in the way. I cut the insulation out over the air filter (a K&N Xstream filter-top unit) to get a little more airflow, but I doubt it helped much.
I don't know who the manufacturer was on mine, but all the ones I've seen have been that same way.

Re: Backside of Cowl Hood?
Yep I found the steel hoods have the brace in the way.. plus I don't want to get rid of the air flow sensor and screw the computing up on the whole deal.
If I do a cowl I'll just seal up a CAI to the top of the hood which should get air from the cowl. |

Re: Backside of Cowl Hood?
When cowl induction was first used, it was to direct the air from the plenum beneath the front edge of the windshield, into the carburetor. There's turbulence in that area, and it was deemed good air to use for carburetors.
What we have isn't friendly to that concept, in some ways. FIPK systems offer (in my opinion) the air that is better than what normally is provided by the OEM intake system. But, anyone who has access to Smokey Yunick pix of the cowl induction that he used on the 1st gen Camaros, will see what I mean. Here's one from the '96 article in Hot Rod Magazine that I downloaded from the 'net. Sorry it is so small. It's what I found.

Re: Backside of Cowl Hood?
They weren't ment to seal an air filter too, they were ment to get fresh air into the engine bay where the carb could gulp it in. Therefor your statment is silly.
