Picked up a new project today.

Picked up this one owner 71 gmc 2500 sierra grande today at an estate sale. It's a 3/4 ton 2wd with a recently rebuild 350 and Im pretty sure a turbo 400. Has every option but a tilt column. Has factory air (all there), tach dash that all gauges work. It's a little rusty under neath but not the worst I've ever fixed. Just have to decide what to do with it. Right now I'm leaning toward parting it out to build my 70 gmc short wide bed. But may make it a tow rig, I can't make up mi mind.

And a pic of the short bed

Outside of a lil rust that thing is straight...if you must part it, jus swap tha parts from one to tha other & seen him on his way..

Re: Picked up a new project today.

Thanks for the comments guys, I really kinda hate to part the truck but still haven't made up my mind on what doing with it. If I do part it I'm gonna take the cab and all the a/c stuff of along with pb and ps for the short bed.

Re: Picked up a new project today.

I wouldn't say all the options, but it looks to have some. Looks to good to part out. How does it run and drive? Did you get a good price on it? Congrats!

Ya it doesnt have "all" the options, but more than most trucks had. Ended up getting it for $1700, almost got it for $1200 but the auctioneer wouldn't stop trying to get another bid, and finally did.

Ya I dont need another tow rig but I'm really thinking of restoring it but with a 6.0/4l80 swap. Who knows only time will tell.

Re: Picked up a new project today.

Just looked at it and it has a lockdown cable and the modulator valve is facing out the back so it's a turbo 350 instead of the 400 I was hoping for.

And I plan on keeping the shell if I build the truck.

Re: Picked up a new project today.

Also the truck has another fuel tank mounted on the between left frame rail and bedside that fills through the wheel opening and has a tank switch mounted next to seat on drivers side. Anyone know if it's original or dealer installed. I know it's not on the spid but on 70 up 3/4 fleetsides it was an option.

My 71 C10 had a tank on each side like that. Switch for them in the same location. I was afraid to use them, so I took them off.

Re: Picked up a new project today.

Here are some pics of the switch and the tank. The switch is made for two extra tanks but the truck has the tool box in the right bed side.

Re: Picked up a new project today.

Overall it is very straight but the floors and rockers are rusty. Im hoping the bed floor is solid under the cabnets under the camper.
