To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

Ok guys, looked at a 72 Super over the Thanksgiving holiday and would like to hear a little input. He is asking $4k but I know he will deal. Let me have it. To buy or not to buy? That is the question. Enjoy!

How about above the windshield inside and out? I would say walk away from what I can see...

Just my 2¢ worth.

Too much money in my opinion. That looks rusty even by MN standards.

Re: To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

Just about any cheyenne super is worth $4K. Except that one. Don't walk, run. The drip rail and cab support rust scares the snot outta me. You'd come out ahead spending $7K on one with half the rust (or, better yet, none).

I agree with the others, pass on that truck. You would be WAY ahead spending more money on a truck with less rust.

I would agree as it looks like a lot of rust...and what about the rust you can't see? Between mechanics and rust...rust is a lot more expensive to repair, JMHO

you'd have to work real hard to break even by parting that truck out if you bought it for $500

& it's a repaint/color change so you can be sure there's even more you cant see. A good parts truck maybe, but not for that price.

Re: To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

Explain to him the truck has been allowed to deteriorate to the point that, although it's a Cheyenne Super SWB,it will take the rare person with great ambition and investment to restore even if he gave it away. I would restore it but the words thousands of dollars wouldn't come into play until after it's mine. Maybe one thousand, but no more. It's certainly got $1,000 in parts...unless the frame is too rusted. I think any rust on it is already showing itself through the paint.

I meant to check for rust above the windshield, inside and out. If you see a line of rust spots on the inside that is bad news...

Re: To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

It's got some nice options. parts that could be transferred to a nice plain jane pickup. The rust kills the price as mentioned above. Walk away from it, make him call you for the bottom barrel offer $500-$700...
What's the condition of the engine and transmission??? It might sound weird, but I prefer a wore out engine w/ oil issues, over one that's been "rebuilt", then I know it hasn't been screwed up by someone else, leaving me w/ possibly a block that can't be bored to the next oversize...

Re: To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

Yeah, I agree. I'd rather have a solid 6cyl truck than a rusty Super. It's cool to find them and all .. just unfortunate it has gone that far. Good lookin truck no doubt but I think I too would pass on it. SB truck too .. keep looking.

.. my .02.

Run away from that. You can buy Cheyenne and Super emblems, a new SPID, and put them on a rust free truck.

Re: To Buy or Not to Buy? 72 Super

You would have to put another $4K into it to make it a $4K dollar truck.

Like all the other said, RUN, DONT WALK away.

Look in the trucks for sale section here.

It's only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it

WOW, that is one rusty SWB truck, to bad. I wouldn't buy it. There are to many of these little GEMS out here in the deserts still in all shapes and sizes. Mine is a Cheyenne Super Longhorn with no rust or cancer. I recommend to keep shopping around. Enjoy some pics of mine.

it looks like in post #2 first pic, somebody has already done some patching on the floor. you could find a whole lot more truck for the money.
