Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

Anybody running Summit Turbos ?
Are they quiet or extremely loud with a stock 350 and stock ram horns dual exhaust ?
I know they are cheap $38 each , but I'm ready to fire up my new crate engine and if I buy a set of more expensive ones, and don't like them, there goes $
What I want is a nice low rumble at low speeds and at cruise hiway speeds....... very quiet.
I have feeling I'm answering my own question.

I have them on my El Camino and love them. 355 Vortec heads, 9.5 comp, GM roller Hot Cam. Not too loud - Not too quiet. Just right....

I have them on my LS swap, they are a little noisier that I like, but it tends to PO the neighbor so I kept them. I also had Cherry Bomb turbos and those were a little louder than these. I have heard that Magnaflow has some muff's that are right in the middle.

Re: Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

Magnaflows sound really good. I had my 396 running for maybe 2min before the rear main blew out. PO put it in backwards.

But .. yes, Magnaflows are pretty impressive. I usually run Flowmaster but just wanted something different. Flows kinda have a drone at low RPM, just a matter of taste I guess.

Re: Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

Maybe a 50 series from Flow would be better, not loud at all unless you stomp on it.

I prefer Cherry Bomb glass packs but for reason I don't understand some people think they are obnoxious.

Re: Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

I've got what are probably cheapie muffler shop turbos on th 71 with tail pipes that exit behind the rear tires and there isn't a lot of noise at road speeds inside the cab unless you run along side a Johnson barrier with the window down. It has a good rumble sitting at an idle though and barks a bit when you really lay into it.

Re: Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

I've got OEM style mufflers like these. 2.5 in X 2.5 out. They're real quiet, even with long tube headers, and flow just fine in a dual exhaust application. I had turbo mufflers for years. They sounded great. I must be getting old though, because anymore I like my quiet pipes.

Me too, I also like quiet, a least for driving. OK at the strip
but not in my cab.
I'm checking out AP turbos.
What are the costs of the Walkers ?

I had 3" exhaust from the headers to the rear bumper with Dynomax Bullets ( so basicly straight pipes ) on my 71 Cheyenne. It also had a noisy gear drive. My old neighbors both worked nights, so they had only been asleep for a few hours when I would go out and start it to go to work. The day it left the driveway with the new owners they both came over and shook my hand and said they would no longer be getting a rude awakening. Wrong, I then bought a 72 Cutlass that had original 40's flowmasters.

Re: Mufflers Quiet or Loud ?

I put a set of Super Traps on my '65 Mustang and there was nothing that sounded like them. The closest thing I could compare the sound to was a boat witha pumped engine with the exhaust coming out the back at the water line. Kind of a "blub blub blub...." with a deep sound. They have a much nicer sound than the flow masters on my Dodge hemi. Plus, they're tunable by adding or removing the plates.
