The Rat- 6.2 Diesel K2500 Project

I finally started doing serious work on this project so I feel like I can start a build thread . Work will slow as I am currently going away to school so most of the work will take place over my vacations and breaks (not to mention when my budget allows). Here's a little background on the project:

This summer I bought a 1983 GMC K2500 LWB 4 wheel drive with a SM465 for cheap of my buddy. It runs and drives excellently, but the bed is gone and the cab is unusable:








I basically want to end up with the truck as it is now, minus the 28 years of rust done to the body. So the search was on for an new cab and bed:







I again picked this other truck up for cheap- It had thrown the torque converter and the P.O. had taken the tranny completely apart only to find he couldn't put it back together again.
The idea is to take the body and bed off the red truck and put it on the GMC frame with the GMC's drive train- big project but should be fun

Both trucks are a good 100 feet from my garage so most of the current work is getting the 6.2 out of the truck and onto the engine stand in my warm garage for the winter break. So my father and I woke up early and managed to remove the front clip and both drive shafts before I had to head back up to school.




Next step is to remove the transfer case and transmission and start on the fun part- touching up the diesel
