rad suppoprt mounting brackets

I notice that some are solid (all steel) mounting to the frame while others have a laminated rubber insulator sandwiched in them. is there any rhyme or reason to what years, makes or models that these applied to;

Re: rad suppoprt mounting brackets

Which year are you working on? I know the 64-66 Chevy has a cross member that the U-shaped metal mounts are bolted to, then a formed U-shaped rubber cushion sets in there to protect the rad. This is the only way I have seen the 64-66 so if someone knows something I dont....

Sorry Ron, no where near my parts book to look that up. The 60-61 exploded view shows more hardware than the 63 exploded view.

Norm; re the photo that you just put in under rad guard(another thread) of the 4 x 4 frt end(parts truck) you will notice the rad support brkts just above the frt spring hanger. that one is solid, but there are lots that are insulated.

Sorry didn't know where my head was. 1.286 Bracket correct? Never owned or paid attention before to GMC's.

Re: rad suppoprt mounting brackets

It has been my experience that only the Suburbans and Panels had the rubber bonded radiator support mounting brackets. I've not seen those on any pickups.

I was at Bills Truck Shop in Courtice Ontario today and we were talking about this site. This frame had a Chevrolet Cab on it. He did not think the cab was original to the frame. Thanks Ron for brining this to our attention.

Re: rad suppoprt mounting brackets

So is this frame a pickup frame or a Suburban/Panel frame?

Re: rad suppoprt mounting brackets

This was attached to the trailing arms on the same frame. Trailing arms were only Chevrolet correct? Should ask Bill if this truck was brought up from the States or was in Canada. Look at the frame how clean it is though.

Re: rad suppoprt mounting brackets

I believe that they were an option on GMC, as springs were on Chevrolet.
It must have been one of those Ca. trucks
