I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
The reason for it is because I was changing a crankshaft sensor on my 96 voyager .. the foolish thing is on the backside of the transaxle and the sensor would not come out past the bracket on the back side of the trans...then the sensor broke in half ................................... now I am 80 percent sure I will have to pull the trans out to fix it .... who would put an engine so far under the cowl that you have to be a contorsionist to work on it ... ok rant over.............

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
Exact reason I plan to have my 63 and 64 as daily drivers. (drive one while the other is broke down)lol. I am very mechanically stupid, but, these trucks are very simple to work on. PLUS, tags are dirt cheap, and insurance is cheap. I plan to sell my '08 Mustang Bullitt and drive my trucks. The Bullitt cost me about $560 a month to own. I can put less than that in my trucks every month and have something really nice eventually.....

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I drive my 68 everyday just becaus I can. I love driving my truck and nothing is better than pulling up next to people and they instantly recognize that you are in a classic. They will pass a thousand other cars that day but if you ask them which one they remember most will say the one you were in. Plus what's cooler than an old car or truck??

I have 3 words for you, gas and air conditioning. At lest that is my excuse for not driving for 45 minutes to work in my truck.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I think the gas would not be an issue if I go to a 230 , and a turbo ( my DD is a 454), I have wanted to do that for some time ,and I guess it would not be to hard to find brackets for an AC setup..... I can make it without power windows and door locks ....

Ive always had a problem making my old vehicles idle in the winter.Other that and the gas usage i do think they are better than newer vehicles.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
Drove it all summer long, no problems and had plenty of fun and adventures at redlights. Everybody has something to say when they see it. It'll be there again next summer and i drive it everywhere i go. Cheap to drive, easy to fix and reliable. The 350 with OD is very streetable.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
My other 63 was my DD from 95-97 ... Guess I should not care what they look like and just drive it .. the newer 63 has been all about getting it road worthy and I have to say I still lack a bit of faith in it ....

My 63 is the newest vehicle I own. Also my daily driver. Very reliable still and great head turner.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I drive my 65 almost everyday, unless I need to carry more people that 2, then the rice burner is needed. Oh and if it is going to rain, then the truck stays in the garage too. the only reason I do this is because of the idiots that seem to come out when its raining, they think they can do 70 in a 45 and stop on a dime with wet streets.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I drive my '66 everyday now. I hadn't planned to, but for many reasons stated above by others, I find myself leaving my expedition at home and taking the truck. I plan to install a Vintage Air Gen IV system in the spring, but for now, my deluxe heater works better than any car I've ever owned.

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I won't argue on the heater comment ,as long as my truck is moving it is blowing heat whether the fan is on or not , good thing it is the deluxe heater ... I already have the AC compressor on the engine , and I have a knee freezer ,I just need to get the other items installed....

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
Good luck on finding an inline 6 A/C brackets. Of course when you find 2 sets let me know! They are the same as the passenger car line.
Tell you what, If you help to find me the original brackets like in the picture, Ill send you, free of charge, the heavier duty Cast Iron brackets I have. |

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
This setup puts the compressor on the drivers side. the brackets are not cast. just steel like regular brackets. also have the under dash unit that works and the original book lol

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
UPDATE.... well I armed myself with a myriad of tools... angle die grinders ,a 5 dollar chinese dremel tool I bought this weekend at a swap meet , a bunch of carbide burrs and a bit of determination... first up was the chinese dremel with a small round ball burr.. I worked my way through one side of what was left of the crankshaft sensor.. Then changed to the angle die grinder but it was too hard to manuver, so I switched back to the dremel with another long christmas tree burr and it got the piece to move ... then using a hook I slid it out ... WHAT A GREAT FEELING !!!

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I built my 66 GMC to drive from the very beginning, I love it, all the upgrades made it super reliable and you cannot go anywhere without people waving at you, making you roll down your window at stoplights to say how nice it looks, just a lot of fun. Daily driver is the only way to go for me, why build one if you do not use it. Kieth
Its a lot easier to get in and out of for us old guys also. |

Re: I am considering making my '63 my daily driver..
I drive my 63 everyday too. She ain't pretty, but she's reliable. My wife calls me an "exhibitionist", because I intentionally lay on the pedal when I pass newer cars in traffic. I just tell her "Baby, I got no horn, so I have to let them know I am there and what better way than with super 40's and 4-inch cowboy tips out the sides?" Safety first, Fellas!!
